"WOW!" I said this at least a few times within every freaking episode of "24" season one. I'm not exaggerating here. This is some damned good entertainment. Especially if you like government suspense stuff. This is the show that put Kiefer Sutherland back on the map. He's not the only big name here either. Dennis Hopper and Lou Diamond Phillips show up later on. I know, I know, define 'big name actor'. But anyway.

The gimmick of the show is that it takes place in real time, seconds ticking away. When they do show the clock by itself, a hammer-like sound follows every second. Just to pound into your head the stress of time in the show.

Sutherland plays FBI agent Jack Bauer. Bauer is one of the top guys at the Los Angeles division of of the FBI Counter Terrorist Unit. Around midnight Jack is called into the office to head up an immediate threat to one Senator David Palmer, the first black candidate with a good shot at the presidency. All of this happens on the day of the California Presidential Primary.

On top of that Jack has to deal with his daughter sneaking out late at night. His wife tries to find her, but their daughter Kim is kidnapped. Kim is kidnapped, and it goes from there. Meanwhile the story follows Senator Palmer's troubles with some family issues and the big money that funds campaigns, all along with the knowledge that someone could be targeting him for assassination. How is it all connected? Who are the bad guys. Is there a mole in the FBI setting Jack up? And why is Jack's family targeted specifically?

I don't want to say any more, since it's the twists and turns that make this show great. There are instances where predictability lingers, but most of the time your not sure what happens next or who to trust. I was on the edge of my seat the whole way. Gotta love that, plus it's damned good television. I give it a solid A+. This show is a must-see.
