:: Family Guy, the cartoon series ::

by Thunderdude

Within the last decade or so the Cartoons have broken through  into the mainstream of comedy and prime time. There have been some like  "South Park" and "Beavis and Butthead" that came off too shocking for the  prime time and made us laugh doing so. Others like "The Simpsons", "Futurama" and "King of the Hill" gave us humor for all ages and even  managed to throw a curveball or two in once in a while to keep us in line.

One cartoon show that's meant to liven up to both types had a short but  ridiculously funny run on FOX. For the three seasons "The Family Guy" somehow churned out  hilarious episodes like "The Simpsons" and still managed a " I can't believe  they did that" from me with every episode. The episodes from all three  seasons are now available on DVD. I'd like to think of the series as a  crossroads between "The Simpsons" and "Southpark." The entire series is smart,  witty humor that knocks you on your arse.

"The Family Guy" follows the adventures of the Griffins, a modest  Irish-Catholic family living in a small Rhode Island town. Peter the father  is a fat naive macho lazy (like Homer Simpson) worker in a toy factory.  Lois is his hot wife with the nasal voice that actually left a life of  luxury to be with Peter. Lois is the obvious rock in the family (like Marge  Simpson) as the housewife who makes a little money on the side teaching  piano. Meg is the oldest of the kids in high school desperately struggling  to fit in. Chris, the second child is a clone of Peter only more naive at  the age of 13. The youngest is little 1 year old baby Stuie. Stuie speaks  with an English accent and is an evil genius bent on taking over the world while trying to kill his mother. Throw in the talking alcoholic dog Brian  and hilarity ensues. A cast of fun neighbors and a blatantly gay boss just  add to the mix. I have to admit that every freakin' episode made me laugh my ass  off. With every episode things almost seemed to get more ridiculous and  un-PC with no apologies. Baby Stuie tends to steal the show whenever one of  his bits is played up. Every episode follows a story with a handful of  hilarious and ridiculous flashbacks or side clips.

If your ready to laugh  and can handle some un-PC humor, then "The Family Guy" is for you. I rate the entire series a solid A. I can't give it a plus only  due to the near cloning of Homer and Marge with Peter and Lois. Still I  have not found any animated show that can match "The Family Guy".
