:: Dead Like Me season 2 ::

by William the Bloody

Season2 of Dead Like Me brings us the continuing adventures of undead grim reaper George Lass and her cohorts. George's parents get a divorce after her father has an affair with a student. Younger sister Reggie is obsessed with her dead sister and believes she still walks the earth as a spirit (she is of course correct, but that's not normal, so she is forced into counseling against her will). Self absorbed ex-starlet Daisy Adair is still confidently reaping souls with George's group and finds an actual relationship with a television producer who is two-faced and mean. Mason still pines for Daisy, but is ever the screw up. Roxy is interviewed by the cops at a crime scene and they convince her to stop meter-maiding and join the force. Rube is as elusive and secretive about himself as ever, and is forced to look at his former life in the face when the post office returns a package he sent over 80 years ago. Meanwhile, George's other career at Happy Time Temp Agency advances beyond anything she could have ever expected (when did she get "goals" and "career oriented"?) and actually starts to open up to her boss and only living friend, Dolores.

The Good: The dark sense of humour is back and with a vengeance! Now that the show is past the awkward first season exposition jitters, it really gets a chance to shine! This show is truly original in its artistic direction, being nothing at all like what you'd see on any hour long network TV series. I really enjoyed the new peeks into Rube's former life in this time around, as he was reaper with the least back story last season. We meet another reaper from another division, natural causes, and it's a cool little look into the reaper biz. We even got a sudden crash course on what creates a Graveling, which took me slightly by surprise, but made sense within the realm of the show. The stuff they got to bring up concerning Dolores Herbig, was simply hilarious. Once again, she's a laugh riot gold mine! And receptionist Crystal, too. Hoo boy. I like the twists and turn they took with Reggie's character who is still so confused after George's death, but at the season's end, I like to think she's finally at peace with it. We also got a sweet Halloween episode as the series finale. Nice!

The Bad: I was sad that this was the end of it all, and with only 15 episodes, I felt cheated. I wanted MORE!

Finally, I love this show to bits. The humour is so dark in places that it fits me to a glove. No clip episode this season, which was a big fat plus, and they really found their voice here. Too bad Showtime still pulled the plug or I'd keep watching until I died.

A+
