Okay, hold your breath, I'm getting political here.

I am in support of gay marriage. There. I said it and I'm proud. You know, you don't have to be gay to support this, and for people to think you are is stupid. It's just like you don't have to black to know that apartheid is wrong or Jewish to disapprove of anti-Semitism. Its a form of prejudice. plain and simple, to not allow a homosexual to marry simply because of who that person is marrying. Yes, there are "civil unions" but don't make me laugh. That is the same this as the "separate but equal" policy towards the black community which was deemed unconstitutional, and yet this separate but equal is okay? I don't get it.

It's somehow not okay for two men or women who quite possibly could have been together and in love for a decade to get married all official-like and yet it is perfectly legal and vouched for if a heterosexual couple who just met, got drunk, and have a drive thru wedding in Vegas. The 8 hour marriage of Britney Spears was more of a recognized marriage than and gay civil union will ever be.

This country was founded on a basis of acceptance, freedom, and equal rights. Everyone has the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. So why are you less entitled to these rights if you're homosexual? Some would argue that they would be making a mockery out of marriage and the "church," but I say, how so? Isn't marriage about love? And somehow, I got the impression that God was supposed to be all about the love as well. But you know what? who cares what the almighty church has to say about it, really? Marriages are a government institution, too. People can get wed by a judge or justice of the peace, they don't need the church, and frankly there IS a little thing called the separation of church and state, which we all seem to forget about. So keep God out of law-making please.

And while we're on it, if there are going to be civil unions, it should be for EVERYONE and not just the homosexual unions. If you are joined in a religious ceremony, then it's a marriage, if you are joined in a civil service like in city hall, or by a judge, then it's a civil union. Now there is not prejudice involved, because the same rules apply to all. And now states can decide which to honor,  or both. So if ANY couple straight or gay moves to a new state they better check first to see if their union would be recognized by state law. Sound a little outrageous for a couple married for 20 years with three kids to have to check to see if their license would be valid if they were to move out of state? Well, then think about what is going here. I too think it is outrageous to do this to a loving couple just because they happen to be of the same sex.

I just can't stand the fact that people are saying that gays don't have the same capacity to love. They're human beings, too! And isn't that what any human wants? Love and to be loved? To be able to marry the love of your life? Since when did this become too much to ask?

William (civil rights activist, baby!)
