::Today's soundtrack: Ray Park, Jr. "Ghostbusters" ::

Do you believe in ghosts? Me? I'm not sure. I want to say "no" because like with God and unicorns, I haven't seen any real hard evidence that they DO exist. However, I'm not above admitting that I could be wrong about it.

Do you know what one of the creepiest moments during the film The Sixth Sense was the first time I watched it? It was right at the beginning, before Bruce Willis's character gets attacked, when his wife goes into the basement to get a bottle of wine. She sort of pauses for a moment, then looks around, sees nothing, and then for no reason, runs up the steps real fast. It was the perfect depiction of that eerie, creepy crawly feeling we all get from time to time. You know you're alone in your house, but then, out of nowhere you get this... feeling as though someone is there watching you. You know no one is there, but you have to get out of that room, and for some reason just going into the next room makes the feeling go away and everything is normal again. What creates that weird feeling? What is it that made that normal room that you go into every day suddenly feel uncomfortable? Could there really be a ghost of some kind present in the room that we cannot see but can see us? I'm not saying that it is definitely a ghost,  I'm just saying  I cannot explain it.

I have also been to houses where there is one particular room that has a strange feeling in it all the time. For some unknown reason, the one room in the whole house just feels weird to be in and most of the time, it's not just me who feels it. I've asked and had other people say, "You felt that, too?" or "Oh, I know!" and I don't know if this makes me feel better or worse. On one hand I feel kind of better knowing that it's not just me thinking a certain room has a creepy aura but on the other it might be a relief to hear that I'm just weird and getting some subconscious vibe. Having other people confirm the odd feeling when being in a room makes me think that there is something about the room that is creepy and it's not in my head, but it is unexplainable and therefore even more creepy. What is it that makes that one room eerie? No one can ever put their finger on it, really. People who believe in ghosts usually use that or the idea that "someone died there" as the go to reason. Could they be right? Again, I can't explain it.

There are people who think that you can hear, or see, or detect ghosts through some types of technology. You know, the whole "white noise" theory where if you're tuned to a station on the radio or television or something where there isn't a broadcast, only static, and listen closely that you can hear voices underneath the noise. Now, this could be any number of things, such as I know I always think I hear things, like the phone ringing or whatever, when I have something loud, like the vacuum cleaner or a drill, going, but more often than not, I am wrong and my ears were playing tricks on me. Also, you could be getting a static channel, but that doesn't mean that channel isn't in use somewhere else, but you don't get the signal strong enough to hear it completely clearly. That being said, they say that sometimes the weird voices under the static aren't always apparent unless recorded and then played back. Similarly, people say that ghosts in a room aren't visible with the naked eye but will show up on film or video. Now, I've never tried either of these things personally, but what if the fact that when listening to white noise live has no voice but then listening to a play back of the same noise DOES have a voice? Why would that happen? How could that happen? Or if you shot some video of your friends and then watched it and saw a streak across the screen or a blotch of light no one noticed during the filming but obvious when viewing it? What could have caused it? Some people are convinced that these events are caused by ghosts. All I can say is, once I again, I cannot explain it.

All I've done here is gone over some things I cannot explain. Are these things evidence of ghosts simply because they are unexplainable? Or does it actually mean I'm just not smart enough to explain them? Why do the hairs on my neck stand on end when I enter a certain room? I don't know. Are any unexplained things caused by ghosts? I say "no" that just because something is "unexplained" doesn't mean it CAN'T be explained, but hey, I'm willing to be proven wrong.
