Our founder, Sir Bloody William Salutations, traveler of The Internets! Welcome to William's Bloody Hell, so named after our founder, Sir Bloody William. He is seen in the likeness above in a rare, 19th century woodcut. This image was rumoured to have been commissioned after a bout of unpleasantness in the White Chapel district of London. :: Today's soundtrack: The Cure "Club America" ::

As many of you may or may not know, I enjoy some anime. I'm a big fan of Inuyasha, and just about every Miyazaki film, to start, along with Metropolis, Lain, Ghost in the Shell, Perfect Blue, Vampire Hunter D and Hellsing, to name a few. I like taking in the different animation styles and I admire many of them for bringing it to levels most animation studios in the United States barely touch. I do have a small problem with anime, and that is it's fans.

Don't get me wrong, I've met quite a few of you who are cool and great to talk with about characters and plot lines and what have you, but there are some of you out there who really need to get over yourselves STAT. I try every now and again to go into anime related chat rooms to talk about such things and more often than not get scoffed at for not "talking the talk." Some of you out there may know what I mean by this. It seems if I either don't A) speak Japanese or B) plunk down my entire paycheck every week on anime, I'm apparently not worthy enough to join in a conversation about the Kikyo-Inuyasha-Kagome love triangle. Well, I'm sorry that I have other cinematic interests besides anime, alright? So, I don't own the entire Neon Genesis Evangelion library, sue me. Does that give you the right to shut me out of a little potentially friendly chatter? Apparently my niceness is eclipsed by these factors. It boarders on the snobbish if you ask me.

And speaking of the snobbery, I really find it annoying when the hardcore "fans" of anime get all up in arms whenever it is referred to as a "cartoon." Um, excuse me? It is a bloody cartoon! Do you see any live actors anywhere? No. Its DRAWN and ANIMATED. Last time I checked, that was the definition of a cartoon. Yes, they can be very adult oriented ones. And yes, they are usually gorgeously animated with equally gorgeous direction and cinematography, and can be included in my top five favorite films of all time list, but they ARE cartoons nonetheless. Seriously, let's call a spade a spade and put this one to bed finally.

Not since Star Trek have I seen a group of such outlandish fans. Come on, people, quit taking yourselves so seriously and lighten up!

William (one angry otaku)
