Our founder, Sir Bloody William Salutations, traveler of The Internets! Welcome to William's Bloody Hell, so named after our founder, Sir Bloody William. He is seen in the likeness above in a rare, 19th century woodcut. This image was rumoured to have been commissioned after a bout of unpleasantness in the White Chapel district of London. ::Today's soundtrack: The Beatles "Help!" ::

With the overflow of sentimentality that come along with the end of the year, I took a little bit of time to remind myself of the good in the world. Too often the horrible things overshadow the good one in the new on television and newspapers, etcetera. There are good people out there who do nice things for others, often others they haven't even met. I want to take a few minutes of your day here and share with you some of the lovely stories that I have read to restore your faith in humanity.

Sometimes just a small little act of kindness is all it takes to make someone's day... so much so that they feel compelled to do the same for others. Something as small as paying for someone's cup of coffee, even. Several Starbucks have reported people in their drive-thrus paying for the next car's order, an event which sometimes carried on until the line was emptied. You can read the whole story HERE.

The next step up from paying for someone's coffee, is paying for their lunch. A couple at a diner wished to remain anonymous as they paid for their own lunch and meals for the couple at the next table. This started a chain reaction as other people in the diner began paying for other people's lunches. This went on for five hours. Full story HERE.

A California woman with a tight budget needed to make a hard decision: pay her mortgage or help her daughter buy groceries for her children. She phoned her daughter to tell her that she had opted to not pay the mortgage and that she would help with the food, only she had dialed a wrong number and explained all this to a stranger. The stranger on the other end decided to help this woman by buying the groceries. When the stranger asked what they would need for food, she was asked only for milk and eggs, but in the end supplied them with enough food for the rest of the month. Full story HERE.

An Oregon man had made a difference in lives of many, but especially one homeless man to whom he would give a sandwich several times a week. No one new of the man's kindness until after he died and the homeless man came to pay his respects. This inspired many into giving food to the homeless, starting with the woman who worked at the funeral parlour. Full story HERE.

A couple in the Portland, Oregon area helped another to turn his life around. Another local had lost his job and wound up homeless and sleeping on the grass next to Hawthorne Bridge. The office of a financial planner overlooks this area and he saw the ever growing crowd of homeless below him. One day he went down to talk to them and offer them help. One man took him up on that, and soon found himself living in a small apartment, with a cell phone and a new suit. The planner and his wife helped the homeless man to create a resume and a few weeks later, he had landed a full time job. The couple asked for nothing in return. Full story HERE.

A woman had been driven to her dialysis appointments by the same taxi cab driver for two years. The cab driver decided to give her fare her own kidney. They had no other relationship. Full story HERE.

I'm not saying you need to go out and donate your kidney, but isn't it nice to know that there are people like that in the world? Wouldn't it put a smile on your face if you had eaten at a restaurant and the waitress told you another patron had paid for your dinner? There are good people out there, and it doesn't have to be hard (maybe the price of a coffee?) to be one of them, too.

William the Bloody (kind stranger)
