Our founder, Sir Bloody William Salutations, traveler of The Internets! Welcome to William's Bloody Hell, so named after our founder, Sir Bloody William. He is seen in the likeness above in a rare, 19th century woodcut. This image was rumoured to have been commissioned after a bout of unpleasantness in the White Chapel district of London. ::Today's soundtrack: REM "Imitation of Life" ::

I think that it is time that I spoke up about 3D filmmaking. Not since the days of Vincent Price being crowned King of 3D have we had such an explosive interest in studios creating 3D films. Sure, we got hit with the occasional horror piece in the 1980s, such as Jaws 3D and Friday the 13th part III, but that was the extent of my exposure as a child. Then they started using it as a quick gimmick now and then at amusement parks and specialty shows. Theeeen once in a while a children's movie would be released in 3D. Then they started REreleasing old movies in 3D (I'm looking at you Nightmare Before Christmas and Night of the Living Dead). After several recent successes such as Coraline and of course the international blockbuster Avatar being a major hit, 3D has now reached a second golden age.

And you know what? I can't stand it. I have tried several times to watch movies that I like in 3D with those glasses and I HATE IT. And I keep trying, too! It's not like this was once or twice and I gave up on it! I WANT to have this work out, but it doesn't! Most recently I attempted to watch Coraline after buying the Blu-ray. It came with the glasses, so I figured, why not? It had been a while since my last try and hey, at least these WEREN'T those extra-awful blue and red glasses. But I couldn't do it. I think I lasted about fifteen minutes before I could feel a migraine coming on and I had to give it a rest.

Personally, I think it's half me and half the glasses. Yes, I don't have 20-20 vision. This means I see differently out of each eye. It's not so bad that I have to wear glasses or anything, but I think it's just enough that the images on the screen don't meld right. I always wind up seeing slightly double, which my eyeballs find confusing to look at and will wind up making my brain hurt if I strain myself looking at it too long. Now, those glasses don't help much by having REALLY THICK RIMS! The rim REALLY obscures my vision and takes me out of the illusion completely! I'm very much "aware" of the big, white border around and  in between my eye sockets when I wear them, which further ruins my eyes' ability to properly create a 3D picture. Maybe if they were to REDESIGN the glasses without big, white frames it would help greatly!

I had read an article a while ago that someone big, I want to say Steven Spielberg, was working on a way to make 3D viewable WITHOUT the use of the glasses! I believe it was a specialty screen, or something? It sounded big and expensive, but by golly, if he can get that to work and they put those into IMAX theaters, you can bet your ass I'd be all over it! If you can give me a way to actually see a full length feature the whole way through and actually SEE the 3D to its full potential, then yeah, I could probably understand why it's getting so popular again. But, until they do that, I literally, can't see it. Because it would make my brain hurt to try to see it. And I am a wimp who doesn't like pain. Because it hurts.
