:: Today's soundtrack: Madness "House of Fun" ::

Every so often I like to look back some of the truly funny things my friends and I have done. Well, this being New Year's and all, sort of gets one in the reflective mood, doesn't it? I couldn't' help but think of these absolutely zany antics.

There was that time several years ago where we had a fake birthday party for a friend. See, I have this chum who's six years older than I am, and well, my other mates and I used to give him heck about how old he was. So, back when I was 22-ish (making HIM 28), we decided to have a surprise "fake 30th birthday" party. We went all out, too. We got balloons that said "happy birthday" on them, streamers, a banner, and a cake with candles that said "30" on them. We even got him presents! I invited my friend over to watch some videos, and when he got there, everyone jumped out and yelled "happy birthday!" to which he replied "it's NOT my birthday.... and I'm NOT THIRTY!!" Good times had by all.

Oh, and then there's my picture frame. I have one of those photo frames that holds like a dozens or so pictures in it, right? You know how they always make those with two photos already in some of the windows? Well, I left those in, and filled the other holes. After I put it up, my friends and family would look at all the photos and say things like "oh! I remember that party!" or "look how young your parents look!" and then "who are THOSE people?" I came up with names and back story for the people who came with the frame. "Don't you guys remember Josie? She graduated a year ahead of us? She and Beth used to hang out all the time! Josie went out with (insert actual name of school classmate here) her senior year and then went to (insert name of university)?" Every time a new guest would ask me about the fake people, the story would get more complex and in depth that they'd start to look like they were thinking REALLY hard to remember Josie and Beth who didn't exist. I'd always come clean about deceiving them, mainly because I'd start laughing, and they'd feel dumb for about thirty seconds, then amused, and then they'd go get some one else for me to trick.

And just recently I took some amusing photos of some art students. I do this little art class thing with some elementary school kids once a week, and a project we do is to put together our own comic book. On the back pages, I usually use filler, like other doodles the kids did, or a class photo. Well, this time, the class was unusually small, and there were only seven children, so I decided to do individual photos with captions about them. I got the idea in my head to take their picture while each of them wore a top hat, a fake curly moustache and holding a stuffed owl. Some kids got creative with it and put the moustache on as eyebrows or whatever, and they each held the owl differently, but when looking at the students' pictures in a row, it just plain looks funny. Oh sure, some people don't get it because my humour is all weird in stuff, but we had a grand time doing it, and that's what counts, right?

I think we all could look back on the last year with a bit more grins if everyone took the time to do one crazy-silly thing like this a year. It's all completely innocent and harmless, but it'll make you smile when you reflect on your year's worth of achievements. Go on then, and do something silly just for fun's sake!

William (it's fun!)
