I'm sure many of you out there heard that a couple of weeks ago the internet browser Internet Explorer got hacked. The whole fuckin' system, defenseless. As a result, I was forced to end my long time boycott of browser Firefox in order to keep my credit card information and passwords safe. I've been using Firefox for what, two or three weeks now, and I've got to say...

Big whoop. I don't see it. I don't see what all of you Firefox snobs were up your own asses about. You heard me. Up your own asses. I say this because I have personally visited several websites which have had the disclaimer "if this site doesn't display properly for you, you need to download a better browser" with a link to Firefox. Not a "different" browser, a BETTER browser. Sneh! You know, if I use Internet Explorer and my own site looks perfect in it, but a Firefox user comes by and says something is off, I'm expected to fix it to accommodate them. I don't say "tough luck, go download Internet Explorer!" But many Firefox users don't seem to care how their site displays in Internet Explorer and insist we download their precious Firefox instead of trying to meet our requirements.

If Firefox is so bloody great, why don't coloured scrollbars work in it? This is another thing Firefox snobs have criticized me and half the web about. "You shouldn't use coloured scrollbars since they don't work in all browsers." Who the hell cares? I LIKE coloured scrollbars, okay? To me, they really go that extra step into tying the aesthetics of a website together. The default blue scroller is boring and plain. Does the coloured scrollbar coding make the page display upside down in other browsers or something? No. So, shut the hell up!

In addition to no coloured scrollbars, many of the cool HTML effects I like on my site do not work in damned Firefox. In the current layout, version 9: a Gorey Demise, the semi-transparency filter in the content area doesn't work. In the CD Swap section, I have a hover-over effect on all of swapped CD images to display track lists, which is really, really quite awesome looking, but hey, not in Firefox! The disable right click code on the Guess the Lyric and Movie Dialogue contest pages causes the e-mail submission form to mysteriously not work. Also, for some reason I've noticed that the navigation buttons in the Gorey Demise layout look all blurry, whereas in Internet Explorer the text is crisp. Oh yeah, Firefox is bloody fantastic! (/sarcasm).

I've also, of course, been pouring over this website in Firefox just to see what the heck else is fucked up, and boy, was there A LOT. I discovered a bit of coding in my style sheets that conflicted with the coding within the page which caused the Enter page and all other full screen pages (such as THIS) to have a white background instead of black. In Internet Explorer, it was black all along. No conflicting coding issues. Imagine that. Also, I discovered that some of my bulleted lists for the indexes were all weirded up. Every once in a while I had transposed some of the coding, such as closing the list tag and then closing the link tag instead of the other way around like it's supposed to be, Internet Explorer didn't care, but Firefox threw a fit. These errors I was able to fix, but I don't understand what is going on with the horizontal line on this and all the Rant pages. The alignment is specified as "justify", Internet Explorer takes this to mean the horizontal line should be flush left (yay!), but Firefox thinks this means centered (boo!). What. The. Hell. So, for these few Firefox infested weeks I've had, I've been trying to fix my HTML coding so stuff at least looks passable in FF. I have been able to correct some of the colour and alignment issues, but some things are just plain impossible I'm finding.

Now that I've actually used Firefox, I want to properly and officially tell all you Firefox snobs to get over yourselves. The only "superior" factor to FF is the security aspect. Nothing about actually looking at the internet is any better in it at all. The only thing I found out is that people who use Firefox code their pages to look good in Firefox and therefore it won't display 100% as intended in other browsers, and people who use Internet Explorer code their sites to look best in Internet Explorer and it also won't display 100% as intended in other browsers. That's it. Can we finally get over this silly conflict, move on, and have a delightful tea party? We can all wear top hats and speak in British accents. It will be quite delightful, eh wot?
