:: Today's soundtrack:  Siouxsie and the Banshees "Face to Face"::

I don't like it when the replace an actor on a television series with another. It's supposed to be the same character, but it totally isn't. It's too bad when television producers pull this sort of stunt. Do they have high hopes for a character and feel it's the actresses fault no one responds to her? Why not just write out the character all together? I mean, I'd rather have that than have a stranger in the role.

The odd reason I bring this up is because, well I was viewing an episode of a show I had enjoyed since it started. One of the few shows I still try to catch regularly: That 70's Show. I was shocked and perturbed that they replaced the actress who plays Eric's older sister, Laurie. Show starts out normal, then enter a blonde, "who's this new character?" I wonder, and, to my chagrin, I find out it isn't a new character at all. Sure this chick is as hot as the character needs to be, but her lines all fall flat and shallow. When we last left Laurie, she was rehabilitating herself to be perky and pleasant, and now we have an actress who is the opposite. She doesn't even have the same sour-evilness that the original Laurie had. Hers is very unconvincing.

MSR has scorched me in the past. Remember Fake Becky on Roseanne? I had much the same problems with that actress in the Becky role as I do with Fake Laurie. Her personality comes off different. This new Becky seemed much more hostile than the old Becky. At least these producers saw the error of their ways and brought back old Becky to the part before the show ended. I can only hope the same for Laurie.
