::Today's soundtrack: Queen featuring David Bowie "Under Pressure" ::

Boy, I gotta say, I would not want to be Barack Obama right now. No, not because he's black (hee! Oh, relax, we took racist jokes back, remember? They're funny again. Ask Clint Eastwood. He knows.), but because he's the unlucky sumbitch Democrat President who gets the "honour" of following George "Dubya" Bush into office. So many people have vocalized their disdain for ol' Dubya (yet he somehow managed to get reelected, go figure), that they have voted for the other party this time hoping for a change. While I personally can't be more excited at the idea of a black man with a foreign sounding name to take the highest office in the land, I feel a little sorry for the guy. There is so damn much pressure on him. Everyone expects him to "fix everything" that Bush did, which, if you think about it, makes no sense and is impossible. All the eyes of the gotdamng world are going to be on Obama after he takes office, watching and scrutinizing, waiting for the change they all wanted and for the miracles to happen. Yeah, that's some pressure. Also, being the first "not-a-white-guy" President, he is by default and therefore no fault of his own, going to be the baseline to which all other contenders of the "non-white" variety will be judged. I mean, let's say the Dubya presidency was great. It was perfect and Obama were taking over a smoothly run nation, he would only have to contend with the scrutiny of being the first black president. But as we all know, the Dubya presidency was not a smoothe run, with many horrors left in its wake including but not limited to the fucking Patriot Act, the US involvement in the Middle East cluster, the leaking sieve that is Medicare, the bottomed-out economy, the sloppy execution of No Child Left Behind, et cetera. So many people need all this stuff and more "fixed" and they bet the farm on "the next guy" to take care of it all. It didn't matter who it was, so long as they could "fix" this mess. Yes, the President to follow Dubya would have his hands full of shit that needed shoveling, so couple that with being the first black president and I personally would have a panic attack every hour on the hour until my attendant gave me my Valium if that were me. What people need to understand is that in the United States there is all sorts of due process and voting to get anything done. The President does not in fact have supreme executive power by any means. He has no magic wand he can wave to undo laws and acts passed by a previous administration or to miraculously "fix" things (Also, if he did, that would be kinda gay, and no one wants a gay president. That's too far. ba-dum-dum! Relax, I'm just joking to lighten the mood with all the political talk). There are going to have to be meetings and bill drafting and sessions in Congress and speech making before anything gets done at all, no matter how small it may be. It's not going to be as though Obama gets sworn in and the next day there is peace in the Middle East, the US dollar is strong again, and gasoline costs 99 cents per gallon. Hate to burst your bubble there, but that ain't gonna happen. So, I dearly hope that people who are on verge of losing their homes because of the economic crisis or in desperate need of healthcare or whatnot haven't put all their eggs in one basket, biding their time for Obama to "fix" everything and save them. I hope to heck everyone has a Plan B for whatever miracles they were hoping for with the new administration because while he most definitely is a different person than Dubya he is no magician, and especially in politics, there is no "Easy Button." But, I suppose we'll have to wait and see and hope to Jebus that he doesn't crack under the metric assload of pressure pressing down on him from all angles.

William the Bloody (fingers crossed)
