Our founder, Sir Bloody William Salutations, traveler of The Internets! Welcome to William's Bloody Hell, so named after our founder, Sir Bloody William. He is seen in the likeness above in a rare, 19th century woodcut. This image was rumoured to have been commissioned after a bout of unpleasantness in the White Chapel district of London. :: Today's soundtrack:  Erasure "Round and Round" ::

Have you noticed the odd trend in baby naming lately? It seems like it has finally grown into some sort of freakish contest to see who can come up with the most outlandish.

It used to be that such a thing laid only with hippies and 70s rock stars. Now it has branched out into the actors and seeped into the average household. No more will the children of Frank Zappa be considered to have the most freakish of names!

Some celebrity just named their newborn "Apple" I heard. I remember reading a while back some guy actually named his kid ESPN. Can you believe this? I think I partially blame that one Seinfeld episode where George confesses he'd love to name a daughter "Seven" after Mickey Mantel's number. I have just discovered children in my own town with Lord of the Rings names (oh gawd) Galadriel and Pippin to name a few and also *sic* Neo of all things. There are also more and more girls named "Star" these days. I think I'm finding this more annoying than when parents were getting "creative" by purposefully misspelling a name to make it their own ("Ashleigh" or "Kortney" anyone?).

I used to tease my parents and tell them that if I ever had a son he would be named "Obi wan Kenobi", only to find that after Star wars Episode I came out, at least 3 geeks across the country legally changed their names to that. So now it seems I'm going to have to get extra geeky on my son's ass and name him "Obi-wan-Kenobi Kal-El Optimus-Prime Lion-o Scaramanga Nosferatu General-Zod Doctor-Who Zaphod-Beeblebrox Severus-Snape Aragorn Nightwing Green-Goblin Xanatos Count-Olaf" ... Smith. Yep. That'll sure show them!

William (occasionally known as "Max Power")

PS-- Has it been a year already? Thanks for keeping me out of trouble!
