::Today's soundtrack: The Clash "Should I Stay or Should I Go?" ::
You all don't have any idea how difficult it is coming up with something to write about once a week, do you? To which I'm sure many would reply "Hah! I write in my blog everyday/every other day/more often than once a week and I can manage, so don't cry to me, buddy-boy!" That's very nice and all, but I'll wager in your blogs or whathaveyou, you talk about your life and what happened to you that morning, and so on. That is not what I do here. The blagosphere has enough of those, I think. I like to talk about movies, the future, inventions, problems in the world, evil girl scouts, the zombie apocalypse, the supernatural, literature, and various other subjects that do not involve what I ate for breakfast or what colour my new toothbrush is. I like to talk about topics on a more broad basis than personal one because I think more people might be able to share a thought on it. I could be right, I could wrong on that, but it's the way I like it, and that's what counts most, really. Also, the happenings of my day-to-day are so MIND NUMBINGLY DULL you would wonder why anyone in their right mind would take the time and effort to type out and share such things. So, if you were to update a website as often as you update your blog, but NOT talk about ANYTHING in your own personal life, how long do you think you'd be able to keep that up? You'd probably be able to maintain your current posting pace for a couple of months, but then you'd dry up. Oh yeah, you would. Keep in mind that I also have subsections for reviews, so I can't really post reviews of anything on the main page, and yet I've been doing this thing since 2003, right on schedule, barring the twice a year vacation away from my PC. SO THERE. IN YOUR FACE.
When it comes to the weekly update here, the rant is by FAR the hardest part. Reviews practically write themselves, I can easily divide my attention when drawing with other forms of entertainment and many other things like contest updates and site of the month are only done as needed, and only take like five minutes. To write a rant, I need concentration; I can't even have music going most of the time! Boy, do I get easily distracted, especially when it's something I'm getting frustrated with, like trying to write through writer's block, for example. I stare at the keyboard and screen, trying to WILL myself into writing, but then.... GREAT DAY IN THE MORNING IS THAT THE ICE CREAM TRUCK??? and then all hope of writing is lost (but I have a fudgesicle, so I'm torn as to whether this is a win or a loss).
I don't know where I'm going with this. Well, I suppose one thing would be: do any of you have any advice or writing tips? Good spots to go for ideas or what to use for inspiration? Do any of you have issues with writing as well? How do YOU cope with writer's block? To what unholy god should I address my sacrifices? If a train leaves Toronto travelling west at 100km/hr and a man is riding a giraffe that is running at 20km/hr travelling east from Saskatoon, how long before the owner of the giraffe tracks down the engineer of the train and murders him out of revenge for the death of his beloved pet? I will be very appreciative of anything you all have to offer!
