Our founder, Sir Bloody William Salutations, traveler of The Internets! Welcome to William's Bloody Hell, so named after our founder, Sir Bloody William. He is seen in the likeness above in a rare, 19th century woodcut. This image was rumoured to have been commissioned after a bout of unpleasantness in the White Chapel district of London. Do enjoy your stay and peruse our many, varied offerings, much of which cannot be found elsewhere!

:: Today's soundtrack: John Lennon "Imagine" ::

Quite a few people I'm sure would agree with the statement, "the face of the world today totally sucks." I mean, what with the so-called "war on terror" going on, not to mention all of the famine and disease, oppression and violence in the middle African nations, religious conflicts here, there, and everywhere, suicide bombers, people being killed for abstract reasons, the constant struggle for equal rights for all and not most or a chosen few, crazy people just snapping and going on shooting sprees, censorship and artistic expression, not to mention the jerks who cut you off in traffic even though there were totally no cars behind you but for some reason that guy just couldn't wait for you to pass and forced you to stop short. Yeah, you know who you are, you jackass. But, even in the wake of such horrible, widespread conditions, it's not as though you, as an individual, can't make a difference. Yes, the world is huge, and crap is happening everywhere, and you can't possibly be in everyplace at once, I know. None of us are Superman. However, you'd be surprised at what you could do to make the world better. Even in a tiny way. You might be under the impression that there's nothing one person can do, but you'd be wrong. Here are three very easy ways just about anyone can help to save the world.

1. Be considerate. May seem like nothing, but you'd be surprised. Going into a shop and there's someone right behind you? Hold the door for them. Getting in the check out line at the supermarket and you've got a cart full of stuff and there's someone with only a birthday cake? Let them go ahead of you. Sure, it sounds like not much at all, but think about it. If someone were to be this considerate to you, doesn't it kind of make you feel nice? Doesn't it kind of encourage you do to something similar the next chance you get? You help one person out in a small way, and then they help someone else, and that person does something nice for someone else, and so on. You'd be surprised how far one kind gesture can go.

2. Give blood. Twenty minutes out of your day could save someone's life. It's actually really quite simple. Pretty much you fill out a form about yourself (they need to know if you've been exposed to stuff like Malaria, or if there's a chance you may have contracted anything through a needle, even acupuncture and tattoo ink), they take your medical history (certain diseases may disqualify you unless you are properly treated for them), then you lie down while they stick you with a needle and you wait for about ten minutes for the bag to collect your blood (about a pint). And then, you get to eat their snacks. Yes, give blood and get cookies. It's win-win!

3. Be an organ donor. It's all very simple because you don't even have to do anything until after you die! Fill out the "organ donor" part of your driver's license and be sure to tell you family and/or attorney so that you can be sure your wishes will be carried out upon your death. You could help several people get an extension on life by agreeing to donate your organs. Your heart, lungs (x2), liver, kidneys (x2), intestines, pancreas, and more can save lives and even tissues like your corneas can improve someone's quality of life (yes, your corneas can make a blind person see! How amazing is that?). Also, there is the option of donating to scientific research which will eventually help everyone.

There you go, three simple ways anyone can help make the world a better place. So the next time you're depressed thinking about how the world at large has gone down the toilet, why not take these easy steps to help make it better? Like The Man said, "I guess one person can make a difference. 'Nuff said." 'Nuff said indeed.
