:: Today's soundtrack: The Kinks "Young and Innocent Days" ::
The ever growing swell of internet fan fiction has prompted that I give That 70s Show the same treatment I did with Buffy. The following are the common characteristics which can be found in just about any episode selected at random. If you're going to try to write a 70s Show fan fic, then it is important to included at the very least one of these, but a combination of four or more is best and would convince anyone that you know your stuff:
Red uses the combination of the words "foot" and "ass" in a phrase or sentence.
Kitty laughs nervously.
Fez says "Good day."
A reference is made as to how Eric is skinny or otherwise unappealing and yet he has hottie Donna as a girlfriend.
The kids sit in The Circle in the basement and have a rotating conversation.
Someone remarks how what Kelso proposes is very dangerous and stupid and then let him do it anyway so they can watch.
Someone just flat out says how stupid Kelso is in general.
Kelso or Jackie talk about how pretty they are.
Jackie comments as to how Donna is a mannish woman, a gross redhead, or the like.
Eric's love of Star Wars is mentioned.
Red takes out his trash, which presents an opportunity for Bob to speak to him, or visa versa.
Laurie's slutty behavior is mentioned.
A reference to a 70s movie is made.
The kids find humor at the physical harm of one of them.
Kitty is cooking or preparing food of some kind in the kitchen.
Fez's love of candy is mentioned or shown.
One of Fez's sexual perversions or inadequacies is mentioned or shown.
Food is eaten from the freezer chest in the basement.
Someone has a thought which turns into a movie reel.
One of the kids gets jealous of one of the others.
The water tower is mentioned.
Well, that's most of them anyway. Keep in mind, this is just what I came up with right now, while sitting, in an hour-ish. So, if you were to include these elements in your budding That 70s Show story, you'd fit right in. You know you always wanted to write one, now you have no excuse!
