:: Today's soundtrack: The Misfits "Vampires In Love" ::

Hey! It's October! Halloween is coming up and boy am I excited! I have to say, Halloween is absolutely my favorite holiday. "What about X-mas?" I hear some some protestors call out? Well I'll tell you...

Sure there is the materialistic appeal of X-mas, with the free stuff and all, but Halloween has free candy.

People put on their "Sunday best" and look good for X-mas and X-mas parties, and also treat people a little kinder. I'm sorry but nothing is more fun than putting on costumes and acting like a lunatic (and people tend to frown on covering yourself with stage blood during X-mas dinner, but barely bat an eye on Halloween).

You put up X-mas trees and pretty lights for X-mas. Well, there may not be the odd tradition of putting a tree in your house (what the heck is up with that anyway?), but decorating for Halloween is much more fun. Bats, skeletons, ghosts and cobwebs are way more interesting than angels and stars any day.

Folks listen to heart warming music and sing carols for X-mas. The music you can listen to in order to set the mood for Halloween covers a wider range and can kick Bing Crosby's butt. Honestly, who doesn't like "The Monster Mash", "Don't Fear the Reaper", and "This is Halloween" (from Nightmare Before Christmas)? I also throw in the Lost Highway Soundtrack, some Rob Zombie,  and select tunes from Buffy the Vampire Slayer for good measure (ie, "Transylvanian Concubine").

I'm just going to say it outright: the movies you watch around Halloween are just better. OK sure, It's a Wonderful Life is a heartwarming tale and A Christmas Story makes me bust a gut, but all in all? Who hasn't had a good time making fun of Texas Chainsaw Massacre (hilarious in its own right)? And need I even go into the antics which ensue from a good bout of Rocky Horror Picture Show?

Bonus points for Halloween: The Simpson's "Treehouse of Horror" episodes. That one time Allyson Hannigan got dressed up like a hooker for Halloween on Buffy. And no one gets drunk enough to chase frightened little children off the porch during X-mas.
