I think prostitution should be legal. There I've said and I'm proud. Well, I'm not going to just leave it at that because if I did, not only would I get an avalanche of nasty e-mail from whatever female readers I've got, but also it really wouldn't qualify as a "rant" now, would it?

Reason number one: It is basically a victimless crime. This is the prostitute's line of work. They do what they do in exchange for money by their own choice. The "Jon" is purchasing a service and he is well aware of what that service is. I'm sure some of you out there are thinking, but what if the guy hiring the hooker is married/is a steady relationship? Isn't his significant other a victim? I say to that: don't be so naive. If the guy is going to cheat he's going to cheat, and better off with a prostitute I say than with his girl's best friend, right? And come on, it's not like girl's don't do their fair share of cheating either. (I'm not saying every girl, I'm just saying it's not like it never ever happens)

Reason number two: I could go get drunk in a bar, pick up some chick, check into a cheap motel with her, get it on all night, wake up the next morning and bid a hasty exit, and that is not illegal. However if exactly the same thing happened and I gave her money, that would be illegal. I just don't understand how that works. Having sex with a stranger is only illegal if you pay them for it. Why is that now?

Reason number three: Prostitution is only illegal in this country I think because this country is and has been predominantly run Christians. No offense to Christians, but man do you guys seem to push your moral and belief system on everyone else. If you don't think its right or proper to pay someone for sex, well then don't do it! Just don't tell not to. Christianity just so heavily pushes the abstinence, virginity, no sex till you're married, and monogamy stance that they're trying to make everyone believe in this too but attempting to cut of some people's only means to pre-/extra-marital "fun".

Not only do I think our government should legalize prostitution, I also think they should get behind it. All prostitutes could have to be licensed, every 2 years needed a renewal with new photo ID. That money would go straight to the government! Also, mandatory health check ups once a month, and inspections once a year. If they pass their check up, the get their card stamped and signed by the MD. Jon's can ask to see their health card to make sure their hooker is clean of disease and possible opiates. Once a year a government inspector checks to make sure they got every month stamped, and if they don't they pay a fine (more government money!). And imagine, government run brothels. That's when you know your prostitute is absolutely clean and her check ups are up to date no question. These girls would earn hourly wages and the fees paid by the Jon's would go to the government. Also that makes them government employees and get benefits packages and 401Ks. That makes their earnings not all under the table income anymore, and therefore is taxed and put into the system. Wow. All this money the government could be making if they just put their minds to it, but most of the guys in government consider it immoral. Too bad. Think of all the states whose deficits could disappear.

Don't get me wrong; I'm not here saying everyone should hire a prostitute. I'm not even saying I, myself, would ever as long as I live. All I'm saying is, don't tell me I can't when it doesn't affect you or any other person's rights. I have the right to say what I want and believe what I want in this country, so why can't I do who I want, even if it is for money.
